Heitor Villa-Lobos is, to this day, one of the most well-known Brazilian composers. His compositional output is formidable and merges Brazilian folk traditions and European sounds effortlessly. His Ciclo Brasileiro is a collection of four pieces for solo piano written in 1936-37.

Juan José Castro was an Argentinian composer and a pillar of the Argentine avant-garde movement of the 20th century. His Tangos para piano, composed in 1942, display Castro’s unique ability to weave melody, intrigue, and dissonance, resulting in something that is unequivocally his.

Featuring the one and only Calixto Oviedo on percussion, the album concludes with Festiva, a lively contradanza for piano written by Cuban composer José María Vitier.

This album was recorded in Los Angeles and released in 2017. Artwork by Steph Nowotarski.
